FT BV Euryphaessa
The flagship and pride of the Federated Terran Commonwealth Navy, the massive battlecarrier Euryphaessa is the sole battleship-grade vessel of Terran construction. First envisioned in AR83 in the aftermath of the first Exarchy invasion, the Euryphaessa was designed as a counter to the Exarchy's Emperor-class Assault Carriers. Matching the Emperor's power in direct combat, the Euryphaessa also offers massive tactical capacity through its numerous onboard strikecraft squadrons and multiple missile tubes loaded with long-range 'Dragonfire' nuclear missiles. A refit for the Euryphaessa including a shield system and Thermal Lance mount is expected following the launch of the second ship of the class, which is nearing completion at the Pollux Shipyards.
While the Euryphaessa-class of Battlecarriers finally gave the Commonwealth a tool capable of confronting the Exarchy's Emperor-class Assault Carriers head on, their complex construction presented numerous issues. Considered revolutionary when first conceptualized, by the time the first ship of the Euryphaessa-class was finally completed, its armor layout and power grid amongst other systems were already considered archaic, being incapable of supporting a strong shielding system, and impossible to modernize. FedCom thus sought a new design which could be constructed rapidly to replace inevitable losses, and to bolster numbers for added flexibility against the numerically-superior Exarchy. The solution was the Sopheram-class carrier.
