FT CL Oceanus
First launched in AR52, the Oceanus-class was designed based off of an expaneded Impervious-class hull to serve as command ships and corvette ferries. The Oceanus' role was soon rendered obsolete after the development of the Astrogator in AR64, which revolutionized strikecraft doctrine and replaced the slow, vulnerable, and expensive strike corvettes. Production ceased, and all vessels were mothballed. The inactive Oceanus-class hulls were selected by FedCom to be refitted with the surplus Arclite railgun systems left over from conversion of Tethys-class vessels to artillery cruiser specification, now to be housed in six newly-designed twin turrets to improve field of fire over traditional spinal and casemate mounts. Reclassified as light cruisers, the Oceanus-class vessels are expected to be a stopgap measure in providing flank escort for vulnerable Tethys-class formations.
